Humano Seguros
Humano Seguros is a leading insurance provider in the Dominican Republic. They sought to modernize their Oracle-based core applications by migrating them to the cloud. Through a proof of concept led by AWS Advanced Consulting Partner DFX5, Humano discovered AWS offered superior performance, security, and savings compared to other cloud providers.
Why AWS
After assessing several public cloud providers, Humano selected AWS because of:
- Broader and deeper cloud functionality
- More advanced database migration tools and services
- Superior security capabilities
Customer Challenge
Humano relied on legacy, on-premises Oracle databases and applications—including a critical queuing system developed in-house—to run its operations. Humano wanted to migrate these workloads to the cloud to achieve greater efficiency, agility, and disaster resilience. Their main requirements were:
- Minimize disruption to critical production workloads during migration
- Maintain or improve performance of core applications
- Reduce IT infrastructure and operational costs
- Establish cloud governance to manage migrations and operations
Overall Solution
Based on the proof of concept, Humano worked with DFX5 to design a robust, scalable architecture for their core Oracle applications on AWS. The solution consists of the following layers engineered for high availability:
- Application Layer: The Oracle application servers run on EC2 instances behind Elastic Load Balancers, auto-scaling to meet demand.
- Database Layer: The Oracle databases are deployed on Amazon RDS using Multi-AZ configurations for built-in failover protection. Read replicas bolster performance.
- Storage Layer: The EFS service offers shared file storage for compute instances. Data is replicated across multiple Availability Zones for high availability and stored redundantly for maximum durability.
This architecture can scale seamlessly during traffic spikes to maintain performance. Multiple redundancy measures at each layer maximize uptime and disaster resilience.
DFX5 also designed and implemented Humano’s Cloud Governance and Landing Zone using AWS Control Tower including monitoring, security, networking and operations to manage resources efficiently.
