ANSA McAL

Ansa McAL is one of the largest conglomerates in Trinidad and Tobago, with over 25 subsidiaries operating across the Caribbean in industries ranging from food and beverage manufacturing to distribution and retail. The company has a long history in the region, tracing its roots back over 175 years to the founding of a rum distillery in Trinidad in 1844 that later expanded into a diverse corporation under the Ansa McAL name.

After migrating the USA Subsidiaries, ANSA McAL started a second migration project of the data centers in Barbados.
This migration will:
  • Consolidate 6 different data centers
  • Optimize infrastructure and operations costs
  • Simplify their Microsoft licensing
  • Centralize client applications deployments and access

Ansa is looking for a technological ally that will allow them to continue this expansion by streamlining the integration of the technology infrastructure into the administration and standards of the group, reducing the operational burden.

Customer Challenge

As a fast-growing conglomerate with over 25 subsidiaries across the Caribbean, Ansa McAL struggled with procurement delays and high infrastructure costs when bringing newly acquired regional companies into its portfolio. The process of purchasing, deploying, and integrating new on-premises IT systems often prolonged the time before Ansa could realize value from new subsidiaries. Additionally, the complexity of networking distributed infrastructure across countries made it difficult to unify systems and data, limiting economies of scale. These integration challenges led to operational silos and prevented Ansa McAL from fully capitalizing on synergies during its rapid conglomerate expansion in dynamic Caribbean markets.

Moving to the agility of AWS’ global cloud infrastructure will enable Ansa to accelerate subsidiary integration and better leverage shared platforms to drive acquisition value across its corporation.

Why AWS?

Migrating to AWS will provide the scalable, flexible, and unified cloud infrastructure platform Ansa McAL requires to rapidly onboard new subsidiaries while breaking down IT silos to integrate operations, systems, and data across their corporation; additionally, AWS’s breadth and depth, including End User Computer services allows Ansa McAL to lift and shift its existing Microsoft workloads while modernizing the Client application access for their employees.

Overall Solution

DFX5 was able to quickly address ANSA’s needs, thanks to its experience migrating different companies. The overall solution consisted of the following:
  • Design and implementation of a Landing Zone using Control Tower including security, operations, networking, and governance standards.
  • Lift and Shift of Microsoft Windows Servers
  • Client desktop applications modernization with Amazon Workspaces
  • SSO and Federation of authentication with Ansa’s existing domain
