The Well-Architected framework consists of six pillars:
Operational excellence – focuses on the ability to run workloads effectively, gain insight into their operations, and continuously improve supporting processes and procedures to deliver business value.
Seguridad – gives the ability to protect information, systems, and assets while delivering business value through risk assessments and mitigation strategies
Reliability – offers the ability of a system to recover from infrastructure or service disruptions, dynamically acquire computing resources to meet demand, and mitigate disruptions.
Performance efficiency – emphasizes on the ability to use computing resources efficiently to meet system requirements and to maintain that efficiency.
Cost optimization – helps in avoiding or eliminating unnecessary costs or suboptimal resources.
Sustainability – focuses on the long-term environmental, economic, and societal impact of your business activities.
AWS offers customers Well-Architected Reviews that use the Well-Architected Framework design principles to provide an assessment and recommend remediations for their cloud workloads. The Reviews are performed by AWS Solutions Architects or AWS Well-Architected Partners. Our highly experienced certified AWS Solutions Architects at DFX5 perform Well-Architected Reviews to facilitate our customers in adopting best practices for their cloud environments.
What are the benefits of a Well-Architected Review?
The Well-Architected Framework provides us a consistent approach to evaluate architectures and provides guidance to implement designs that scale with your application needs over time. Conducting a Well-Architected Review saves time and cost due to operational efficiency. It helps customers pinpoint the risks within their cloud environment and evaluate their workloads accordingly. As a result, system failures can be minimized. If customers get their Well-Architected Reviews conducted through a partner and remediate the identified High-Risk Issues (HRIs) according to the proposed improvements, they get $5000 AWS credits per workload. As our client you can put your trust in DFX5 completely, knowing that the Well-Architected Review conducted for you is approved by AWS for following the AWS best practices. Our Approach to AWS Well-Architected Framework Review
I1. Initial Meeting – during the initial meeting DFX5 experts discuss the high-level design of the workload with the client. All general questions are answered, and an initial view of the workload is gathered. Discussions are usually supported by drawings of the architecture. The company’s operational model is present as well, together with current organizational unit and roles & responsibilities. Mostly this meeting takes about 1 hour.
2. Collecting & Documenting – all relevant documentations are put on the table for detailed analysis by DFX5 Solutions Architects. The documentations typically include architectural diagrams, source code or any other relevant material supporting the current workload or operational model. Materials are extended by the outputs from the initial meeting.
3. Well-Architected Framework Interview – during this phase, our experienced and qualified AWS Solutions Architects conduct a question-and-answer session and perform a formal review. All work is supported by AWS Well-Architected Tool, which is present directly in AWS Console. After this phase, all questions from AWS Well-Architected Framework review are answered. This interview takes about 2 to 3 hours.
4. Review Summary – outputs of all reviews are present in the form of a review summary which contains findings, together with associated risks. All findings are described in the summary deck and explained in the review summary meeting.
5. Recommendations – this part of the outcome is a document containing a prioritized list of issues and a plan to remediate the findings in the form of a roadmap with milestones and expected effort. Additionally, outcome can be extended by Scope of Work, which might be provided to client’s IT department or DFX5 Engineers.
